WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Blepharoplasty is the procedure of removing excess muscle, fat and skin tissues from the lower and upper eyelids and tightening the areas around the eyes. As a result of this surgical procedure, sagging, inward or outward-turned upper and lower eyelids, under-eye bags caused by excess fat, and wrinkles around the eyes can be corrected.

HOW IS BLEPHAROPLASTY DONE?

It is performed on the basis of the removal of under-eye bags with an incision made through the eyelid. In cases that require the removal of excess fat and skin tissue, different techniques or techniques can be used, from eyelash bottoms to crow’s feet. The procedure can be performed using local anesthesia. Swelling will disappear within two weeks after the surgery. The sutures used during the surgery will be removed four days after the surgery.

After the operation, eye ointment containing antibiotics and ice are applied to the operation area.The patient is kept under observation for 2-3 hours. There is no need to close or tape the eyes after surgery. If the patient does not encounter any problems, he does not need to stay in the hospital, he can be discharged on the same day. It is important to continue ice therapy for at least 2-3 days after discharge. Apart from this, antibiotic ointment should be applied to the operation area in the morning and evening for a week. After the operation, 2-3 days should be spent resting. Water should not come into contact with the area until 4-5 days after the operation. After 1 week, the stitches are removed and then a process that does not require any extra care is entered. In general, after the third day, patients can return to their daily life if there is no problem, and to their work that requires physical activity at the end of a week.

This procedure is suitable for patients over the age of 30 with bags under the eyes or sagging of the lower and upper eyelids.

IS THE POST-SURGERY PROCESS DIFFICULT?

Contrary to fear, the postoperative period is not difficult. Apart from slight swelling and bruising in the operation area, no significant problems are expected.
